Which wide receivers could the Washington Commanders select during the 2023 NFL Draft once other key needs have been addressed?

I’ve looked at about a thousand mock drafts so far, and one thing I know: the Washington Commanders are not selecting a wide receiver on either of the first two days. With the amount of money and draft capital currently tied up in Terry McLaurin, Curtis Samuel, and Jahan Dotson, it isn’t hard to figure out why. Even with limited depth after those three, this is one of the strongest position groups on the team.

However, Dyami Brown, currently penciled in as the fourth option, has produced sporadically and needs to prove his worth this season. The same applies to potential slot receiver Dax Milne, who was mediocre as the Commanders’ primary punt returner in 2022.

The other member of the 2022 receiving corps, Cam Sims, is now on the Las Vegas Raiders. Former Kansas City Chief Marcus Kemp seems like a good bet to replace him as a special teams ace, but he has a total of four career catches.

Veteran Alex Erickson could be in a battle with Milne – he is a better punt returner, but the younger player may have more upside as a receiver. And the team likes 2022 undrafted free agent Kyric McGowan enough to keep around heading into this year’s summer camps as a depth piece.

Though there may not be much room to crack the starting lineup, there is room for a rookie or two to challenge for a roster spot in 2023. The Commanders will not be picking a receiver in the first three rounds, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if they grab one on Day 3, and then sign a few more immediately after the draft.

Here are several less-heralded receivers to keep an eye on during the 2023 NFL Draft and beyond.
