Commanders could draft Ventrell Miller

  • Linebacker | Florida Gators

Adding to the linebacking corps is something that could benefit the Washington Commanders in 2023. Cody Barton was brought in to replace Cole Holcomb after he left in free agency for the Pittsburgh Steelers, but the roster looks desperately short of depth looking at their current options.

This won’t be going unnoticed by Ron Rivera, who’s prided himself on defense as a player and throughout his coaching journey. Therefore, acquiring one or perhaps even two talented second-level prospects during the 2023 NFL Draft should come under serious consideration.

The Commanders are set to host Ventrell Miller on a visit before the draft. This would fill a depth need if nothing else, although the former Florida star could push for a starting role much sooner than expected with further development under defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio.

Miller might be on the small side, but this didn’t impact his production throughout an impressive college career with the Gators. This is thanks to raw power, good leverage, and a high football IQ.

The prospect also anticipated how plays develop well enough and is aggressive in pursuit of the ball carrier. Miller’s lack of size made him a non-factor rushing the passer more often than not, which won’t get any easier against larger, more formidable NFL offensive linemen.

With that being said, this is a nice option for the Commanders early on Day 3. There’s even a chance Miller goes higher than this depending on how his whirlwind visits go with various NFL teams including the Commanders.
