Commanders could take BPA at No. 16

Most mock drafts associated with the Washington Commanders concentrate on two positions of need at No. 16 overall in the 2023 NFL Draft. Depending on which one you read, those in power will focus their attention on finding a cornerback with shutdown potential or an offensive lineman capable of making an immediate impression.

While this looks like the most realistic scenario, head coach Ron Rivera hasn’t ruled anything out. Something that could lead the Commanders into taking the best prospect available when they go on the clock.

Rivera stated at the recent NFL owners’ meetings that the Commanders will react accordingly to what goes on in front of them. If that means a wildcard drops from their original projection and into their laps, the franchise won’t hesitate to pull the trigger regardless of supposed needs at the time.

"“We want to make a decision on the best player for us, the best player available. It’s kind of twofold because the best player for us could be a different position, but the best player available may be that position. So, we’ll see.”"

There is expected to be a run on quarterbacks early in the draft. This will be followed by a mixture of defensive linemen, cornerbacks, and offensive tackles, so the Commanders must prepare themselves for every eventuality and strike with conviction.
