Carson Wentz could join the Packers

After months of speculation about his future, Aaron Rodgers finally set the record straight and declared his intent to join the New York Jets. Something that finally provides Jordan Love with an opportunity to become an NFL starter entering Year 4 of his professional career.

While the trade has yet to be agreed upon as the Green Bay Packers hold out for respectable compensation, it’s a case of when and not if something gets confirmed. And make no mistake, the NFC North outfit is already planning for a future without the sure-fire Pro Football Hall of Famer.

Love has waited patiently for his chance and conducted himself extremely well amid all of Rodgers’ drama. But the simple fact is nobody knows how good the former first-round selection can be from a prominent starting berth.

Only Danny Etling sits behind Love on the depth chart once Rodgers moves on. That has to change and Carson Wentz could provide the player with a solid veteran presence to guide him through the transition from backup to starter.

Wentz is going in a different direction after his less-than-stellar year with the Washington Commanders. But he’s got plenty of experience that can rub off on Love as the spotlight gets brighter.

If something drastic happens, then the Packers also have a capable presence to man things under center next season.
