Could the Washington Commanders spend their first-round selection on running back Bijan Robinson despite the team’s current options?

At least from the outside looking in, the Washington Commanders have far more pressing needs than running back heading into the 2023 NFL Draft. Brian Robinson Jr. and Antonio Gibson represent a decent one-two punch that could thrive further with Eric Bieniemy, who is calling the offensive shots in 2023 following his high-profile switch from the Kansas City Chiefs.

While most analysts expect the Commanders to strengthen their offensive line or select a cornerback at No. 16 overall, some are tipping the team to go in a completely different direction. One that would go against the grain and represent a bombshell of epic proportions.

Bijan Robinson is the standout running back in this year’s class that can be found going to Washington in many mock drafts. Although this would be surprising, nothing should be off the table considering the urgent need for Ron Rivera to make a postseason return next time around.

Robinson is definitely a luxury pick for the Commanders. However, the benefits of bringing the former Texas stud into the fold are endless under Bieniemy’s expert guidance.

Players like Robinson don’t come around every day. But what makes him so special and how would he fit into the Commanders if they went in this particular direction?

We took an in-depth look at Robinson in this special scouting report.
