4 experiments the Washington Commanders could cut short in 2023

Joey Slye – Commanders K
The life of an NFL kicker is often precarious. All it takes is one or two bad games to see their job security in tatters, which is exactly what the future could hold for Joey Slye after an indifferent campaign in 2022.
Slye had some fantastic moments for the Washington Commanders, but consistency is sometimes an issue in key moments. He converted 83.3 percent of his field goals and missed four extra points last season, so it would be wise for those in power to seek alternatives in the event he cannot turn things around.
One thing Slye has going for him is a long association with Ron Rivera stemming from their time together on the Carolina Panthers. But considering the pressure could increase exponentially on the head coach if someone buys the team from Dan Snyder, he cannot afford to be sentimental about any player.
This will be nothing new for Sye, who’s bounced around the league since coming out of Virginia Tech. His booming leg strength has given him plenty of chances, but unless his 82.9 career field goal percentage improves, the Commanders will go elsewhere.
That’s the nature of the kicking business, unfortunately. Something that Slye has found out to his cost before.
