Who are the early winners from what’s already been an eventful offseason for the Washington Commanders in 2023?

Even though we’ve yet to officially arrive at free agency, it’s already been an eventful offseason for the Washington Commanders. Players have been extended or released, new coaches have come into the fold, and the prospect of new ownership looks increasingly likely to finally remove Dan Snyder’s dark cloud from the organization.

There is much hard work ahead for those in power. But the Commanders have legitimate hope for sustainable, long-term success providing they get some key decisions right in the weeks and months ahead.

At the very least, Ron Rivera has given himself a fighting chance. However, the experienced figure knows better than anyone what can occur under a new owner if things don’t go according to plan immediately.

With that being said, here are three early winners from the Commanders 2023 offseason so far.

The Washington Commanders cutting ties with Bobby McCain ahead of time was a strong vote of confidence in the team’s young safety trio. Kamren Curl and Darrick Forrest will play integral roles next season, but Percy Butler could benefit most from this particular salary-cap casualty in 2023.

Butler flashed promise when called upon last season and looks set for a bigger role during his sophomore campaign. Something that gives Jack Del Rio’s defense another explosive, hard-hitting presence that can roam the field behind a loaded defensive front.
