Packers could sign Taylor Heinicke
If the Washington Commanders and Taylor Heinicke go their separate ways, there should be interest from elsewhere. The quarterback proved capable of stepping in at a moment’s notice and producing last season, which is exactly what teams want in their backup players at the position.
This should serve Heinicke well. Although paying him north of $10 million per season does appear unlikely despite the salary cap surging once again in 2023.
One destination for Heinicke could be the Green Bay Packers. There is a growing belief that Aaron Rodgers’ storied stint with the organization is coming to a close, with the four-time NFL MVP recently meeting top figures from the New York Jets to discuss a potential switch.
Should Rodgers leave Green Bay, the team plans to move forward with Jordan Love, who’s waited patiently for his chance. However, they would be wise to get a contingency plan into the building in the event the former first-round pick cannot meet expectations.
Heinicke could fill that role and provide Love with a support system he’ll need beyond a shadow of a doubt ahead of his transition into a prominent NFL starter. Something that could make all the difference as the player looks to finally emerge from Rodgers’ shadow.
