4 ambitious free-agent signings the Commanders could make in 2023

Commanders could sign Tremaine Edmunds
- Linebacker | Buffalo Bills
Ron Rivera stated recently that the Washington Commanders want to get something worked out with Cole Holcomb to prevent him from testing the market. The linebacker looked the part early last season before injury struck, so this could be a cheap option that can develop further under Jack Del Rio in 2023.
While this is under consideration, there are other avenues to go down. This is a strong draft class of linebackers at the top end and the free-agent pool is likely to have some difference-makers to potentially acquire later this month.
Perhaps the best of the bunch is Tremaine Edmunds. The two-time Pro Bowler has gone over 100 tackles in each of his five NFL seasons and if the Buffalo Bills cannot find a way to keep him around, will be a hot commodity when the legal tampering period commences.
Edmunds is a physical specimen at 6-foot-5 that is relentless against the run. His sideline-to-sideline presence and natural instincts are always capable of takeaways and there’s been some encouraging growth in coverage throughout his time in the league.
This wouldn’t be the most cost-effective method of upgrading the middle linebacker spot. However, slotting Edmunds behind a stout defensive front in Washington comes with unbelievable potential.
