What ambitious free-agent signings could the Washington Commanders make in pursuit of an instant postseason return in 2023?

Go big or go home is a phrase that’s been used to describe previous free-agent dealings for the Washington Commanders. Some have gone better than others, but it should not detract those in power from being bold once again with lots at stake in 2023.

Head coach Ron Rivera is entering his fourth season and knows what can happen when new ownership comes into the fold. Whether this occurs or not is irrelevant – what’s important for the experienced figure and his staff is focusing on the task at hand and molding this roster into one that can emerge as an NFC frontrunner next season.

This might seem unrealistic – especially considering the questions at quarterback. But the Commanders were not too far away from making another postseason appearance last time around, so it cannot be dismissed entirely providing the right reinforcements are sought in the coming weeks.

With that being said, here are four ambitious free agents the Commanders should consider in 2023.

Commanders could sign Cameron Sutton

  • Cornerback | Pittsburgh Steelers

Finding another cornerback capable of consistent performances is essential for the Washington Commanders this offseason. While going down the draft route seems likely, one cannot dismiss the possibility of landing a free agent capable of slotting in and providing immediate assistance.

Cameron Sutton ticks all the boxes. But he is highly regarded by the Pittsburgh Steelers and loved by Mike Tomlin, which makes this a tough sell no matter how much it would help Jack Del Rio’s defense next season.
