Commanders could sign T.J. Edwards

If the Washington Commanders want to go a little bolder with someone not named Bobby Wagner, then looking at a pending free agent emerging from one of their fierce NFC East rivals should be discussed. Money is tight for the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason after going all-in for a Super Bowl in 2022, which means T.J. Edwards could enter free agency unless something can be worked out beforehand.

Edwards is a phenomenal playmaker that contributes in all phases. It’s been a remarkable rise to prominence for the former undrafted free agent out of Wisconsin, who was everywhere last season en route to a whopping 159 tackles, two sacks, seven passes defended, and 10 tackles for loss.

This sort of production isn’t going to go unnoticed by others around the league. After fighting his way up from relative obscurity, Edwards will want to be paid in relation to his incredible career efforts so far.

Washington could easily afford to do something like this providing another sacrifice or two is made ahead of free agency. There’s going to be a robust market for Edwards, but weakening the reigning division champions only sweetens the pot.

It might take some convincing given that the Eagles took an initial chance on Edwards when most looked the other way. But at the end of the day, money talks.
