Which former Ron Rivera players could end up joining the Washington Commanders in 2023?
This is a critical upcoming campaign for Ron Rivera. The Washington Commanders’ head coach won’t want further speculation about his future to mount with another indifferent season, with the prospect of new ownership casting further doubt on his long-term aspirations with the franchise.
The Commanders were not that far away last season. Had their trade for quarterback Carson Wentz gone better, it could have provided an extra win or two needed for a playoff berth – but it wasn’t to be.
That makes this offseason one of real importance for Rivera and Washington. And the respected figurehead could turn to some old faces to enhance his chances of growth when competitive action resumes.
With this in mind, here are four former Rivera players that could potentially join the Commanders in 2023.
Player No. 1
Commanders could sign Greg Van Roten
Finding better options across the offensive line is a necessity for the Washington Commanders before the 2023 campaign. Greg Van Roten might be on the tail end of his career, but he knows Ron Rivera well and could enhance the team’s depth options at the very worst.
Van Roten played 354 snaps for the Buffalo Bills last season, giving up three penalties and not allowing a single sack. This would be a cheap option that could provide an extra leader within the locker room heading into such a critical season.
