Andrew Norwell – Commanders OL

After the Washington Commanders opted to let Brandon Scherff walk in free agency, those in power decided to place their faith in Andrew Norwell to provide consistency onto the offensive line interior. Something that brought a level of intrigue after a decent season with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2022 and his previous connection to Ron Rivera from their time together on the Carolina Panthers.

Norwell emerged from undrafted free-agent obscurity to become an All-Pro under Rivera’s guidance. There were moments when the player looked the part, but these were few and far between considering how high expectations were upon his arrival.

Scherff was sorely missed on the right-hand side. But the inability of Norwell to solidify the left guard position cost the Commanders in big moments.

This needs to be rectified as a matter of urgency this off-season. Especially if Eric Bieniemy wants to make an instant impression with full offensive control after leaving the Kansas City Chiefs.

Depending on what players come into the fold, Norwell might be surplus to requirements. Releasing him saves the Commanders around $2.28 million against their cap, which is a plausible scenario if the right reinforcements come into the building beforehand.
