Which high-risk free agents could the Washington Commanders potentially target in 2023?

Expectations have increased for the Washington Commanders after acquiring Eric Bieniemy. In order for these to be met, influential figures within the organization must lay the right foundations throughout a crucial off-season period.

The Commanders are in a decent position in terms of salary-cap space and draft picks. If those in power can maximize every resource at their disposal, it could result in an immediate return to postseason football after missing out in 2022.

There are obvious needs right now. Strengthening problem position groups effectively is the only way Washington can progress, but Bienemy’s presence and the talent already on the roster make this an attractive free-agent destination all things considered.

Going bold might be an option if the right opportunities come along. With this in mind, here are four high-risk free agents the Commanders could sign in 2023.

The Washington Commanders need help at the cornerback position. Kendall Fuller and Benjamin St-Juste are serviceable, but adding to their options is almost guaranteed to avoid any complications next season.

Although the jury is still out on Mike Hughes as a potential draft bust, the former first-round selection showed signs of life with the Detroit Lions in 2022. Something that could mean this is the start of a career renaissance for the player.

This could be a relatively cheap gamble for Washington to consider. One that could strengthen their rotation and perhaps even provide them with a productive starter if everything goes well.
