3 things to expect from Eric Bieniemy’s first Commanders presser
By Dean Jones
What can we expect from Eric Bieniemy’s first press conference since becoming Washington Commanders’ assistant head coach/offensive coordinator?
After a landmark change in his career path, Eric Bieniemy will take to the podium for his first Washington Commanders presser on Thursday morning. Something that will have the full attention of fans and the wider media alike.
Bieniemy’s decision to come on board as assistant head coach/offensive coordinator capacity brings a significant amount of intrigue. This is a big gamble from the coach to leave Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, but it’s one he clearly feels can be the final hurdle in pursuit of finally securing a head coaching gig in 2024.
Until Bieniemy secures a top job somewhere else, Washington stands to benefit. Their offense was anemic under Scott Turner in 2022, with suspect quarterback production and a torrid offensive line also becoming significant factors behind their eventual demise.
Things should improve drastically under Bieniemy. Before then, here are three things to expect during his first Commanders’ presser this week.
Thing to Expect No. 1
Eric Bieniemy’s plans for Commanders offense
We could get an insight into how the Washington Commanders’ offense might look with Eric Bieniemy leading the charge. Giving too much way at this stage would be foolish, but there should be a few tidbits to further tantalize fans as free agency and the NFL Draft draw closer.
This is the first chance Bieniemy’s had to construct an offense and call plays prominently. If everything goes as or better than expected, this should be enough for a queue of potential suitors to emerge next year when the head coaching cycle begins once again.
