Efe Obada – Commanders DL
Efe Obada‘s incredible journey to the NFL is astonishing and inspiring in equal measure. The Nigerian-born defensive lineman overcame significant personal adversity to make his dreams come true, but an uncertain few weeks await before the Washington Commanders decide whether or not he’s worthy of another deal.
There was a lot to like about Obada’s contribution to the defensive rotation last season. Something that’s been his calling card over the last few years with the Carolina Panthers and Buffalo Bills before reuniting with Ron Rivera.
Obada’s size, strength, and ability to play anywhere across the defensive front once again made a difference. The player gained four sacks, 24 tackles, eight quarterback hits, and 10 pressures from just 37 percent of Washington’s defensive snaps, which represents decent production considering the involvement.
Washington’s defensive front is loaded with first-round talent across the board. Chase Young’s expected return is something else that might jeopardize Obada’s chances of further involvement next time around if he is extended.
With that being said, having good depth is essential for any team on the defensive front. And considering Young’s recent injury history, having Obada as a contingency plan wouldn’t be the worst idea in the world.
