The Commanders look primed to take a leap forward and perhaps make a playoff run this season. Bringing two-time Super Bowl champion Eric Bieniemy on board to run the offense is a great first step, but there are three other moves Washington needs to make to improve its Super Bowl odds.

If even one of these moves is made, Washington’s current Super Bowl odds of +7000 will prove to be a SCREAMING value.

Before I explain the three free agents to target, take advantage of this value by utilizing BetMGM’s $1,000 bet insurance.

3 Free Agents Washington Should Sign to Increase Super Bowl Odds

Derek Carr, Quarterback

This Commanders offense is built to win NOW. Terry McLaurin, Jahan Dotson, Curtis Samuel, Antonio Gibson, and Brian Robinson Jr. make up one of the NFL’s best skill-position groups. All that’s missing is a real quarterback.

With all due respect to Sam Howell and no respect to Carson Wentz, Washington does not have a real quarterback on the roster right now. Wentz has no guaranteed money left on his deal, and cutting him seems to be an obvious choice.

Washington would save over $26 million by cutting Wentz, giving them room to go after a proven player like Carr. Pairing Carr with Bienemy and this skill group would immediately give the Commanders one of the NFC’s best offenses.

At the very least, the biggest offseason need for Washington is under center and the front office should explore every option it can.

Daron Payne, Defensive Tackle

Washington has opened contract negotiations with Payne, who enjoyed a career year under Ron Rivera last season. Retaining him is of paramount importance, as he helped spearhead one of the NFL’s best defensive lines alongside Jonathan Allen.

Chase Young has another offseason to get healthier and retaining Payne would give the Commanders a defensive front not too far below that of the mighty 49ers.

Last season, Payne had 11.5 sacks, 18 tackles for loss, and 20 quarterback hits. Losing him would leave a massive hole on the defensive line, and Washington’s odds would improve if it keeps the breakout star of last season’s defense.

Tremaine Edmunds, Linebacker

Edmunds is set to score a huge contract after performing like one of the NFL’s best defensive players over the last several years. It looks like his days in Buffalo may be over, so Washington should scoop him up to help lead Rivera’s unit.

Even in a “down year” last season, Edmunds still notched 102 tackles and seven pass deflections. He’s a leader and would bring a toughness to a Commanders’ linebacking crew that’s been lacking in that quality.

IF Washington doesn’t make a quarterback improvement, it needs the best defense it can possibly afford. That starts with a player like Edmunds.

I can’t emphasize enough how important it is to grab the value on Washington’s Super Bowl odds before it makes any moves. Releasing Wentz alone would give the Commanders the sixth-most cap space of any team, and there are a number of free agents that could help push Washington over the top.
