The Washington Commanders looked like a playoff team for a portion of the 2022 NFL season, but they stumbled down the stretch and ended up missing out on the postseason.

They finished the regular season with a rare .500 record under the new 17-game format, finishing 8-8-1.

The biggest offseason news to date for the Commanders is a hiring of Chiefs offensive coordinator, Eric Bieniemy, to serve as the team’s new assistant coach and offensive coordinator.

The Commanders have also announced that their expected starter at quarterback this season will be Sam Howell. Can Bieniemy develop Howell and turn the Commanders into contenders?

The oddsmakers don’t have a lot of faith in that happening. Let’s take a look at the odds.

Super Bowl 58 odds

Commanders have longest odds amongst NFC East teams

The sportsbooks have the Commanders set at +7000 to win Super Bowl 58. Based on the odds, that’s an implied probability of 1.41%.

Only the Titans, Falcons, Bears, Colts, Texans, and Cardinals have longer odds than the Commanders. Washington has the longest odds amongst the four NFC East teams, and the fourth longest odds amongst all NFC teams.

The Commanders hold the 16th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft and they have plenty of holes to fill to compete next season.

Most importantly, the Commanders needs Bienemy to develop Howell into the quarterback that can lead this team to the next level.
