Cam Sims – Commanders WR

Even though the Washington Commanders look pretty set at the wide receiver position, Eric Bieniemy might have an idea or two of his own. Adding via free agency or the 2023 NFL Draft are possibilities, but making more use of Cam Sims is something else for the respected offensive mind to contemplate in the coming weeks.

Sims is a core special teams player that’s found life difficult generating targets under previous offensive coordinators. However, his athletic attributes could see him take a leap forward under Bieniemy providing the Commanders offer him a new deal.

At 6-foot-5, Sims has the wide catch radius to impact proceedings over the middle. Considering how little Washington got from its tight-end options last season, it’s an asset Bieniemy might want to keep around in some capacity.

If nothing else, Sims is a hugely impactful figure on special teams. His production in this key element of NFL play alone is worthy of an extension, but much will also depend on what potential targets the Commanders want with Bieniemy’s system at the forefront of their minds.

Sims won’t be short of offers if he does depart. But there is more than enough in the player’s skill set to suggest major growth under Bieniemy’s tutelage.
