12 under-the-radar free agents Commanders should target in 2023
Commanders could target Austin Hooper
- Tight End | Tennessee Titans
The Washington Commanders have several talented prospects at tight end, but injuries and youth have limited their impact thus far. If the front office is inclined to poach players from teams with salary cap issues, then Austin Hooper is a good one to target.
Hooper’s analytics are solid and his talent is undeniable. He also comes with plenty of proven production in numerous schemes.
Commanders could target Darius Slayton
- Wide Receiver | New York Giants
The New York Giants have a healthy cap situation and Darius Slayton could easily be re-signed. If they decide to move on from the wideout, the Commanders should give serious consideration to adding him to the roster.
He is better than any Washington receiver not named Terry McLaurin, Curtis Samuel, and Jahan Dotson. Adding another pass-catcher would also benefit Sam Howell greatly.
Commanders could target Jacoby Brissett
- Quarterback | Cleveland Browns
If it seems like we are picking on the Cleveland Browns and Titans, then your assumption would be correct. Sniping free agents from cap-challenged teams is fair game and the Commanders should take advantage of these opportunities.
Jacoby Brissett could become a hot commodity next month and Washington should avoid a bidding war. If the veteran is affordable and available, striking quickly in the opening hours of free agency would be wise.
