Where could Washington Commanders quarterback Carson Wentz land next after his expected release before 2023 free agency?

The future of quarterback Carson Wentz looks murkier than ever. His trade to the Washington Commanders didn’t go according to plan, which leaves the organization with an easy decision in pursuit of saving a significant amount on their salary cap in 2023.

While acquiring Wentz from the Indianapolis Colts was an error, those in power did set up his contract to make this a short-term arrangement if things turned sour. Something that saves Washington $26.17 million on their cap with no dead money attached.

This is almost guaranteed after head coach Ron Rivera stated that Sam Howell would go into OTAs atop the depth chart. But with plenty of quarterback-needy teams around the league, Wentz should find alternative employment elsewhere.

With this in mind, here are four possible destinations that Wentz could find himself next in 2023.

Carson Wentz could join the Jaguars

Looking at Carson Wentz’s current career trajectory, the best he could possibly hope for is a backup role somewhere in 2022. Something the Jacksonville Jaguars could provide behind Trevor Lawrence.

This would make a ton of sense for Wentz if he’s released by the Washington Commanders as anticipated. It also allows him to work alongside Doug Pederson again – a coach that brought out the best in the player before being unceremoniously removed by the Philadelphia Eagles.
