Re-grading the Commanders 2022 NFL Draft class after Year No. 1
By Dean Jones
Brian Robinson Jr. – Commanders RB
- Alabama Crimson Tide | Pick No. 98 overall
When the Washington Commanders selected Brian Robinson Jr., many projected him to be an early NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year candidate in 2022. Looking at his production at Alabama, it wasn’t hard to see why lofty goals were being set.
This optimism diminished when Robinson was shot multiple times during an attempted robbery. Something that through his preseason plans into tatters and brought back painful memories of Sean Taylor’s tragic death for Commanders fans across the country.
Robinson’s determination and resolve meant he was not only able to make a quick recovery but also get back into the rotation after a short, brutal period of rehabilitation. A remarkable story considering how bleak things looked earlier that summer.
It didn’t take long for Robinson to establish himself as Washington’s lead running back. His explosiveness, patience, and ability to absorb contact were evident from start to finish, which was an immense positive for the player after overcoming significant adversity.
Draft Grade: A
Turning red-zone touches into touchdowns more frequently is the next big obstacle for Robinson. But with a less dramatic offseason in 2023, there’s every chance he can take his game to a completely different level.
