3 Commanders players who could make major strides in 2023

Darrick Forrest – Commanders S
After gaining next to no involvement as a rookie, the jury was out as to whether or not Darrick Forrest could carve out a role for himself with the Washington Commanders. Thankfully for the player and the team, these doubts were quashed during a sophomore campaign of immense promise.
The safety earned starting duties after a phenomenal training camp. Forrest might have lacked experience, but he seemed more than ready for the big occasion based on his overall production throughout the season.
Forrest was assured in coverage when called upon, giving up 54.5 percent of targets thrown in his direction and a creditable 74.5 passer rating. The former Cincinnati stud also became a force against the run, often coming down to the line of scrimmage in pursuit of making plays.
This was a huge step in the right direction for Forrest, who’ll look to flourish further in Year 3 of his professional career. If the defensive back accomplishes this feat, then the Commanders would be wise to offer him an early extension before his contract expires in 2025.
Washington looks to have a real steal in Forrest, who wasn’t taken until the fifth round. But it’s absolutely essential that the player takes additional strides this offseason to continue this newfound momentum.
