4 first-year Commanders players who could be gone in 2023

Reggie Bonnafon – Commanders RB
Finding stability at the running back position was easily accomplished by the Washington Commanders once Brian Robinson Jr. came into the lineup. The third-round pick was shot in the leg during an attempted robbery in the offseason, but his recuperation was remarkable and the impact made left many reasons for long-term encouragement.
J.D. McKissic’s season didn’t go quite as well thanks to an early trip to season-ending injured/reserve with a neck compilation. Although he is expected back as a core rotational piece next season.
This could leave Reggie Bonnafon on the outside looking in. The journeyman is well known to head coach Ron Rivera from their time together with the Carolina Panthers, but he spent most of last season on the practice squad before getting limited carries in Week 18 against the Dallas Cowboys.
Considering the talent emerging from the college ranks in 2023, Washington could decide Bonnafon’s services are no longer required. And in all honesty, nobody would bat an eyelid if this scenario does come to fruition.
Bonnafon is serviceable as a backup option at best. However, given the growing emergence of Robinson and the capabilities McKissic has when healthy, opportunities would be extremely limited even if he did stick around.
