Earlier this week, we pegged Kendall Fuller as one of the Washington Commanders’ most disappointing players this season. While Fuller has improved over the last month, his start to the campaign was objectively dreadful. Fuller’s form was so worrying that it sparked conversation about his future in D.C.

Over the last few weeks, though, Fuller has rediscovered the form that saw him finish as one of the league’s premier cornerbacks in 2021. That trend continued in a huge way in the opening minutes against the Texans in Week 11.

After the Commanders offense went three and out on the game’s initial possession, Fuller jumped a Davis Mills pass intended for Brandin Cooks, picked it off and went untouched into the end zone to give Washington an early lead.

Watch Commanders’ Kendall Fuller log a pick-six of Texans QB Davis Mills in the first quarter.

This is textbook cornerback play from Fuller, who used his veteran savvy to take advantage of the inexperienced Mills, who telegraphed the pass.

The turnover marked Fuller’s first interception of the season and just his second INT since the start of 2021. The 27-year-old is more known for his sticky coverage and breaking up passes than generating turnovers, but this one came at a perfect time for the Commanders, who can ill-afford a letdown to the inferior Texans after they upset the Eagles on the road Monday night.

Couldn’t have scripted a better start for the Commanders, Fuller and the entire defense are flying to the football early and the unit seems poised for a strong performance.  If the offense gets going, Washington’s lead should continue to grow.
