It was another nail-biter, but this time the results worked in the Washington Commanders’ favor. After losing just yards away from the goal line last week, Washington paid it forward, stopping the Bears just short of the goal line to pick up the victory.

Despite having an uneven performance, Benjamin St-Juste may have just saved the season…or at the very least Ron Rivera’s job, for the time being.

When they say football is a game of inches, nothing would be closer to the truth than Darnell Mooney’s almost touchdown on 4th and goal.

For those of you who powered through that game, you deserve some respect, because the first 30 minutes of gameplay was painful to watch. At the half, the Commanders clung to a 3-0 lead.

However, despite picking up the W, the same problems that have plagued the Commanders throughout the year were on full display.

  • Inability to slow down a mobile quarterback: Check.
  • Giving up multiple big plays on defense: Check.
  • Inefficiencies on third down. Yup.
  • Unimaginative play-calling. Lack of adjustments. Undisciplined play that led to multiple penalties in inopportune times. All of that.

I mean, how do you give up a 40-yard touchdown while having 12 men on the field?

This was less about the Commanders winning the game than it was about the Bears giving it away. If it wasn’t for a muffed punt, Washington may not have ever gotten into the end zone.

If you are in the “a win is a win” category, Thursday’s victory should put a smile on your face. But, for those who are more realistic about this team’s chances in 2022, that W may as well stand for a wake-up call.

When Tony Gonzalez says on national television, “These are the JV teams of the NFL” before correcting himself and saying, “I need to take that back, [these] might be the freshman team[s],” you know there are some issues.

Let’s get into the Week 6 numbers.
