Commanders vs Eagles Odds and Prediction for Week 3 matchup
By Jerry Trotta
The Washington Commanders were humbled by the Detroit Lions, but they’ll have to lick their wounds because they’ll face a much more formidable opponent in Week 3: the 2-0 Philadelphia Eagles, who are fresh off thumping old friend Kirk Cousins and the Vikings with the entire country watching on Monday Night Football.
If the Commanders dig themselves a similar hole to the Lions game, the much-improved Eagles won’t give them a chance to get up off the mat.
The Vikings are a dark horse NFC contender under Kevin O’Connell in the eyes of several analysts and Philly made them look like a lottery team.
With the Eagles looking primed for a deep playoff run (we know it’s early), it’s not a surprise they’re favored to beat Washington at FedEx Field. Fresh off a convincing win over a seemingly good Minnesota team in primetime, Commanders fans should expect the line to keep moving in Philly’s favor all week.
Commanders vs Eagles Odds Week 3
The Eagles are currently a whopping-6.5 favorite over the Commanders, according to FanDuel’s latest odds. The line opened at -4.5 and has jumped to -6.5 (basically a touchdown) by Tuesday morning. The Commanders have -110 odds to cover that number, while they have +235 odds to win outright on the moneyline.
The over/under for Sunday is set at 47.5 points, which is honestly lower than we expected. With Washington’s defense allowing an even 29.0 points per game thus far, don’t be shocked if that number jumps to 50.5 by the end of the week.
Both the over and under have -110 odds to cash.
Commanders vs Eagles Prediction Week 3
Oddsmakers clearly view this as a lopsided matchup, and understandably so given how the teams have performed through two games. Could you imagine what the spread would be if the Eagles were home? You’d probably be talking about Washington being a double-digit underdog, as home field is usually worth three points in Vegas.
There’s just nothing to like about this matchup.
Jalen Hurts is in the form of his life and silencing every critic along the way. Philly’s running game is a daunting prospect for the Commanders, who rank 29th with 157.0 rushing yards allowed per game through two weeks, as is the prospect of containing AJ Brown, DeVonta Smith and Dallas Goedert in the secondary.
Jonathan Allen recently came out that Hurts provides more sack opportunities relative to Goff. We hope the Eagles don’t use that as bulletin-board material, because the Lions and Vikings had zero answers for Hurts’ dual-threat ability.
Judging by our optimistic tone, you’ll be shocked to know we don’t like the Commanders in this matchup. With that said, a 6.5-point spread is substantial, so look for Washington to deliver a backdoor cover in a losing effort at home.
Eagles 30, Commanders 24.
