Commanders’ Brian Robinson incredibly doing agility drills weeks after getting shot

It’s not hyperbole to say Brian Robinson is lucky to be alive after he suffered two gunshot wounds to his lower extremities during a robbery attempt. Gunshot wounds and robberies rarely have happy endings, but the Washington Commanders running back is authoring a comeback that might debut sooner than expected.
To fill you in on Robinson’s recovery timeline, the accident occurred on Aug. 28. He underwent immediate surgery and surprised Commanders coaches and teammates at the team facility the following Tuesday. A few days later, he was off crutches and walking without a noticeable limp.
This week, Robinson was back at practice for the first time since getting shot and continued wowing fans with his progress.
Fast forward to Thursday and Robinson shared a video to Instagram that showed him breezing through agility drills (!) at practice.
Commanders RB Brian Robinson unfathomably doing agility drills weeks after getting shot.
Incomprehensible in every sense of the word.
Last week, ESPN’s Adam Schefter revealed the Commanders’ confidence that Robinson could return in Week 5 against the Tennessee Titans. That marks Robinson’s earliest-possible return date after Washington placed him on the non-football reserve list to start the year; knocking him out the first four games.
It’s still unknown if Robinson will meet the team’s unofficial timetable, but this video has to inject fans with some semblance of confidence.
Of course, nobody really cares when Robinson returns. While the Commanders’ offense will be better for it (look up his preseason highlights), the fact he’s on track to return to football weeks after the incident is a miracle. Having him back on the field in some capacity at all this season is a miracle by itself.
In two preseason games, Robinson led Washington with 14 rushes for 57 yards — 42 of which came after contact — and a touchdown. Ron Rivera raved about the second-round pick’s rushing style throughout training camp and he was poised to supplant Antonio Gibson as the team’s top running back before the accident.
Again, the fact football is even a part of the conversation surrounding Robinson is unfathomable. What a story.
