10 bold predictions for the Washington Commanders in 2022
The expectations are lofty for all NFL teams every summer, but only one can be a Super Bowl champion. The time has come for the annual Washington Commanders ten bold predictions from yours truly, but the approach will be a bit different this year.
In previous years, the boldness was a bit far-fetched, but we will keep it somewhat realistic this time around. It will still be bold, but let’s see if a few have a bit of realism mixed in.
Bold predictions are fun and can spark our imaginations. Each year, a surprise player or two will have a breakout season and skew all of the original predictions. At the beginning of last season, Taylor Heinicke was expected to keep the bench warm and be the clipboard specialist. Imagine making a bold prediction about him last year. With that in mind, let’s get right to this list.
Commanders: 10 bold predictions for the 2022 season
Bold Prediction One
Carson Wentz will throw for 5,033 yards, 37 touchdowns, 6 interceptions, rush for 4 touchdowns, and produce 116 yards on the ground. He will be named to the Pro Bowl and earn the NFL Comeback Player of the Year.
Bold Prediction Two
Linebacker Cole Holcomb will lead the team with 172 combined tackles. He will haul in 3 interceptions, recover two fumbles, and record two sacks. Holcomb will be named a Pro Bowl alternate.
Bold Prediction Three
Antonio Gibson’s statistics as a running back will be modest in 2022, but look for the former Memphis Tiger to have a solid run as a kick returner. Gibson will produce an average of 24.9 kicks per return – including three longer returns of 68, 47, and 43 yards.
Bold Prediction Four
The cornerbacks have been widely criticized in recent seasons for a lack of production and poor play at inopportune moments. However, one player will shine in 2022. William Jackson will rebound nicely with 8 interceptions, a pick six for 52 yards, a sack, and a fumble recovery. He will be named as an alternate to the Pro Bowl.
Bold Prediction Five
Terry McLaurin and rookie Jahan Dotson will become the first pair of Commanders receivers since 2016 to have more than 1,000 receiving yards in a season. McLaurin is in the process of rewriting the Commanders record books and he simply continues to get better each year.
McLaurin will record 94 receptions, 1,227 yards receiving, and 6 touchdowns with one being an 84-yard gem. McLaurin will earn second-team All-Pro honors and a first-team Pro Bowl selection.
Dotson will post 81 receptions, 1,042 yards receiving, and five touchdowns. Dotson will be fifth in the Rookie of the Year voting. He will also be named to the All-Rookie team.
Bold Prediction Six
Montez Sweat will produce a season for the ages. Look for 14 sacks, an interception, a fumble recovery, three forced fumbles, and one safety. Sweat will earn second-team All-Pro honors and be selected for the Pro Bowl as a starter.
Bold Prediction Seven
Tight End Logan Thomas will start slowly, but end it with a vengeance. 61 receptions (our prediction) may not generate many headlines, but eight touchdowns will impress the analysts. 539 yards may seem small, but it is still a major accomplishment as the former Hokie will rebound from his 2021 injury.
Bold Prediction Eight
It may seem a bit odd to include a kicker in our Washington Commanders ten bold predictions for this season, but Joey Slye has one of the strongest legs in the NFL. He has been a bit shaky of late, but 2022 will be his best season thus far. Slye will connect on 26 field goals with 28 attempts. He will convert 100% of his extra points. Four of his field goals will sail more than 50 yards and 93% of his kickoffs will be touchbacks.
Bold Prediction Nine
Safety Kamren Curl will have another solid season and his best statistically thus far. Look for four interceptions with one being a 28-yard touchdown, a fumble recovery, two forced fumbles, and three sacks. The former Arkansas standout will also produce 112 combined tackles total for 2022. Curl will also be named a Pro Bowl alternate.
Bold Prediction Ten
This is the sweetest prediction of all. Running back Brian Robinson will return by week five and still rush for 1,088 yards, 7 touchdowns, and haul in 23 receptions for 141 yards. His dedication will earn the love and respect of his coaches, teammates, and fans.
