Washington Commanders: Overreactions to the preseason
Editor’s note: This article was written before it was reported Brian Robinson was the victim of a shooting during a robbery attempt. Robinson was in stable condition as of Sunday night and the injuries are not considered life-threatening.
Brian Robinson is the next mid-round steal for Washington
In recent years, Washington has drafted Terry McLaurin and Antonio Gibson in the third round. Now, they may very well have drafted Gibson’s replacement in Brian Robinson.
Robinson, who sat patiently behind Damien Harris, Josh Jacobs, and Najee Harris at Alabama, is more of a pure runner than Gibson and brings back memories of Alfred Morris.
In Week 2 of the preseason, it was Robinson, not Gibson, who got the first carry. Gibson also seemed to be in the doghouse after fumbling in the first week of the preseason, an ongoing issue that has continued from last season.
But overall, it may be for the best. Feeding Robinson with carries allows Gibson to be moved around the field, where he can be dangerous in space and utilize his natural receiving skills. He can also finally be given the opportunity to return kicks, which he thrived at in college without the risk of injury to the previous starting running back option.
The plan at running back will definitely be impacted by the unfortunate situation that affected Brian Robinson. We at Riggo’s Rag wish him the best in his speedy recovery.
That’s some of my overreactions. What are you overreacting about after preseason? Does going 0-3 in the pre-season mean something or is it a whole lot of nothing?
Overreacting is what fans do, but remember, for every defensive mishap, there was Brian Robinson breaking tackles, and for every dropped pass by Dyami Brown, there was the oozing potential of Sam Howell being a franchise quarterback.
But it’s clear to see that after seeing the product on the field thus far, the fanbase could use a couple of early wins to gain confidence in this team.
