The Washington Commanders community received heart-stopping news Sunday evening when it was reported Brian Robinson was shot multiple times during an attempted armed robbery or carjacking. Robinson’s injuries aren’t life-threatening and he could be released from the hospital as early as Monday.

Details are still being put together. As of this writing, it’s known Robinson was shot in the glute and lower leg. The suspects remain at large as of Monday afternoon and police recovered a firearm from the scene of the shooting.

Rivera offered more updates after Monday’s practice, saying there’s no timetable for Robinson’s return to football, but there’s optimism he’ll return this season. There’s initial speculation the rookie running back could land on the non-football injury list, which would rule him out the first four games of the year.

Of course, football is the least of our concerns right now. All we care about is Robinson’s well-being and him getting fully healthy.

With that in mind, commanders fans will love hearing Robinson is in great spirits at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, per his Instagram.

Commanders RB Brian Robinson is out of surgery and in good spirits after he was shot multiple times Sunday.

This is just a fantastic sight.

Robinson asked Rivera to tweet an update from the hospital last night that helped ease the minds of teammates, coaches, media members, fans and players around the NFL. Several of Robinson’s teammates shared their reactions to the shooting on social media, most of which featured prayer emojis, so there was (understandably) legitimate concern about Robinson’s health while details were being gathered.

Like Rivera, Terry McLaurin, Jonathan Allen and Carson Wentz addressed the media following Monday’s practice and were asked about the incident.

"“Whenever someone’s life is in danger, it definitely takes football out of the equation,” Allen said. Once we found out he was going to be fine, and being discharged today from what i heard, that was a good sign.”"

Here’s Terry McLaurin’s describing how he learned of the shooting.

McLaurin added that “You could feel that he [Robinson] wasn’t out there today.” The players sit next to each other during offensive meetings.

This is obviously a difficult time for everyone in the organization, but it’s relieving to hear Robinson is out of surgery and on the road to recovery.

We’ll welcome Robinson back on the football field with open arms whenever the time comes, but the main focus right now is his health.
