The Washington Commanders dropped their first preseason game, but that ultimately isn’t what matters unless you’re the Baltimore Ravens, who’ve won 21 straight preseason games and haven’t lost since way back in 2015.

Ironically enough, the Commanders will get a chance to end that streak (if Baltimore hasn’t lost by then) in Week 3, so that’s something to keep an eye on.

For now, though, let’s focus on some negatives from Week 1 loss to Carolina to preview this Saturday’s road game against Kansas City. While the result is an afterthought, we need to see more from these Commanders players.

4. Jahan Dotson

Before you freak out, we’re not concerned about Dotson. The No. 16 overall pick has stolen the show since rookie minicamp and that’s continued into training camp, where he’s formed an evident rapport with Carson Wentz.

In sum, Dotson’s inclusion on this list isn’t an indictment on his talent. We’re very much ecstatic Washington drafted him in the first round. Having said that, it was disappointing he couldn’t get on the stat sheet in his first preseason game.

Dotson’s 22 snaps tied Wentz for the most amongst Commanders starters, according to Pro Football Focus. He ran 13 routes and drew one target.

We know the Penn State product is itching to make an impact, so perhaps the coaching staff can script an easy catch for him on the first drive vs the Chiefs, akin to what they did with Curtis Samuel on the first play vs Carolina.

Despite not registering a catch, Dotson wasn’t afraid to get physical as a blocker in the running game. Unlike the next three players on this list, we weren’t disappointed in the rookie. We just want to see him make some plays this weekend.
