Commanders fan has deranged question for Carson Wentz after training camp practice
By Jerry Trotta
After COVID largely prevented fans from attending training camp the last two seasons, Washington Commanders fans were likely itching to get to Ashburn this year. That’s exactly what they did as Commanders players were swarmed by autograph-hungry diehards following Wednesday’s first practice of camp.
From Carson Wentz, Terry McLaurin, Chase Young and rookie Jahan Dotson, players were kept busy by crowds of fans. Unfortunately, though, some fans forgot their manners during the longer-than-expected hiatus.
As the quarterback of the team, Wentz had myriad fans lined up with team apparel ready to be autographed. Following his unceremonious Colts departure, it was awesome to see the 29-year-old interact with his new fan base.
Well, with the exception of one fan.
On a video captured by ABC7’s Scott Abraham, one (adult) fan can be heard asking Wentz for his silicone wedding ring he uses during practices.
Commanders quarterback Carson Wentz rejected a fan who asked for his silicone wedding ring.
We’re not in the business of saying whether fans should or shouldn’t be able to attend practices, but this “fan” shouldn’t be allowed back. You’re one of a select few who was lucky enough to have Wentz give you an autograph and your first school of thought is to ask for his silicone wedding ring? How about a sweatband or his cleats? Even asking for his practice jersey would’ve been relatively normal.
In a testament to Wentz’s character, he kept his cool despite clearly being blown away by the request. The fan didn’t back down after the sweet rejection, either, as he explained to Wentz he could simply “buy another one.”
Yup, this guy has no shame whatsoever.
The question everyone (including me) is asking is what the fan wanted the wedding band for. Did he want to auction it off? Use it for himself? Nobody knows, but one thing is for certain: this is the absolute last person you want on the guest list at your wedding … or any family gathering for that matter.

We like to think Wentz knows one shameless lunatic doesn’t speak for every Commanders fan. Most of them were appreciative and starstruck while he was dishing out autographs. Like Ron Rivera has stressed since the trade was made, it’s clear fans (most of them, anyway) are making Wentz feel wanted in Washington.
And to think this was the first day of camp! Who knows how much more madness will ensue between now and mid-August. Buckle up.
