In just two days, the Washington Commanders will report for training camp. That’s the entire roster, too, as both rookies and veterans will show up on July 26.

That might not seem like a huge deal, but we’d much rather all 90 players report at the same time. For some teams, there’s several days separating the arrivals of rookies and veterans. For the Commanders, Carson Wentz and Jahan Dotson will show up together, as will Jonathan Allen and Phidarian Mathis.

With the first practice of training camp just three days away, we thought it’d be a good idea to rank every Commanders player who needs to shine over the course of the next month. Yes, every player could use a strong camp, but these players stick out among the rest as far as needing to be at the top of their game.

For suspense purposes, we’ll rank the players in descending order.

These Commanders players need a strong training camp.

Let’s get one thing straight: Cosmi isn’t fighting for his job at training camp. The 2021 second-round pick is firmly entrenched as the Commanders’ starting right tackle and will hopefully hold that position for the next decade.

Having said that, fans are itching to see Cosmi back on the field after hip and ankle injuries and illness limited him to just nine games as a rookie. One season doesn’t make Cosmi an injury-prone player, but concerns will arise if he gets banged up at camp and misses practice time.

Cosmi’s potential was on full display as a rookie, as he finished with a 74.9 player grade from Pro Football Focus after allowing just 16 pressures and four sacks over 474 snaps. The Texas product also established himself as one of the game’s best run-blockers, with his 81.3 grade ranking 12th among tackles.

Playing next to a new right guard in Trai Turner after Brandon Scherff left in free agency, Washington needs Cosmi to get in a full camp.
