Early Eagles turmoil with Jalen Hurts is welcome sight for Commanders fans
By Jerry Trotta
Let’s start by saying that Washington Commanders fans are in no position to talk smack after the team finished 7-10 last season.
Both the Cowboys and Eagles, their foremost rivals, finished with superior records and made the playoffs. Having said that, however, both teams crashed out of the postseason in embarrassing fashion on Wild Card Weekend, so neither squad accomplished much more than Washington in the grand scheme of things.
Just because the Commanders are aiming to unseat Dallas and Philadelphia doesn’t mean fans can’t poke fun at their rivals when it’s called for, however.
For example, Randy Gregory leaving the Cowboys at the altar in free agency and Dallas offloading Amari Cooper for pennies on the dollar relative to what some other star receivers went for in trades was laugh-out-loud content.
The Eagles, on the other hand, have enjoyed a statement offseason. From making marquee signings in free agency, netting great value in the draft and acquiring AJ Brown to pair with DeVonta Smith, Philly is clearly out to prove something after it made the playoffs in Nick Sirianni’s first year as head coach.
Finally, though, the Eagles gave Commanders fans a reason to smirk after NFL reporter Derrick Gunn shared some damning insight on Jalen Hurts‘ performance during the team’s organized team activities and mandatory minicamp.

Commanders fans will love the Eagles turmoil with Jalen Hurts.
We’d take this report with a grain of salt, as Gunn isn’t exactly a renowned reporter. Then again, though, would he really make up this info? It’s tough to say, as newly-minted Eagles receiver and one of Hurts’ longtime friends, AJ Brown, came to his quarterback’s defense in a string of snarky tweets after this report leaked.

Seems like Brown is going to fit in just fine in the City of Brotherly Love. We can only imagine what the $100 million receiver’s Twitter will look like when Eagles fans, known for their class and keeping a cool head, begin turning on Hurts.
Brown then took things a step further to defend Hurts’ brand.
Fighting sarcasm with sarcasm is actually a clever strategy from Brown, though we’re not sure it’ll play the same if he comes at the media mid-season.
Putting Brown’s tweets aside, Commanders fans have to love the early turmoil surrounding Hurts. The 2022 season will likely determine whether the Eagles give the former second-round pick a contract extension.
Though Hurts is an elite dual-threat QB, his limitations as a gunslinger were on full display in Philly’s blowout loss to the Buccaneers in the playoffs, where he finished 21-of-43 for 258 yards and one touchdown to two interceptions.
The fact he’s followed that up with reportedly struggling during the offseason program, which should be a walk in the park for most starting QBs, is a worrisome sign for the Eagles. Though they arguably flaunt a top-five roster in the NFC after the offseason, they’ll go as far as Hurts takes them in 2022.
Based on this report, that won’t be very far.
