Could Carson Wentz and Terry McLaurin form next great QB-WR duo?

Terry McLaurin outplays Eagles WR A.J. Brown

Terry McLaurin and A.J. Brown have already been compared to one another for most of their careers after being members of the incredible 2019 WR class.

Now they will be put even further under the microscope after A.J. Brown was traded to the Eagles on draft night. The hype around the Eagles offseason has been insane, but I don’t think Jalen Hurts has the talent to facilitate an otherworldly campaign for Brown. Here is a brief comparison of the two receivers career numbers through three seasons:

  • Terry McLaurin – 222 receptions/3,090 yards/16 touchdowns
  • A.J. Brown – 185 receptions/2,995 yards/24 touchdowns

McLaurin has had a lot more volume, but Brown has had a ton of explosive plays. Here is the difference: McLaurin’s stock goes up with Carson Wentz, whereas A.J. Brown’s stock goes down with Jalen Hurts. Tannehill has been a very respectable QB the couple years since he won the job in Tennessee. Tannehill was a far better passer than Jalen Hurts last year as shown by a simple comparison:

  • Ryan Tannehill – 3,734 yards/21 touchdowns on 67.4% completion rate
  • Jalen Hurts – 3,144 yards/16 touchdowns on 61.3% completion rate

I do not understand how people expect A.J. Brown to perform better in an objectively worse passing offense. If he and McLaurin were on the same level a year ago, this offseason indicates McLaurin should have a far more productive 2022 campaign.

Next. Why fans should be optimistic about Carson Wentz. dark
