2. Tre Walker

The Commanders’ kept four linebackers on the 53-man roster last season, so it’s safe to assume they’ll conduct a similar approach for 2022. With Cole Holcomb, Jamin Davis and David Mayo seemingly locks to make the team, an unproven player — like undrafted free agents Tre Walker and Drew White — could earn a spot.

Unfortunately for the two UDFAs, their fate could be determined by Washington potentially signing an experienced veteran. Like every fan, we’ve been campaigning for the Commanders to sign a seasoned linebacker, whether it be of the starting or backup variety. Ron Rivera has been outspoken about wanting to strengthen the position and it’d be quite shocking if he didn’t follow through on his yearning.

An inside linebacker through and through, Walker led Idaho with 105 tackles last campaign en route to earning All-Big Sky honors alongside Falcons second-round pick Troy Anderson. Walker lacks speed for the position, but has a nose for the football that’ll likely serve him well during training camp.

Having said that, the Commanders only used three-linebacker sets on 65 snaps last season, so there isn’t a lot of playing time to go around.

With Holcomb locked into a full-time role, Davis expected to receive an uptick in playing time as a sophomore and Mayo offering a steadying presence against the run, Walker has an uphill climb to still be on the team after the preseason.
