Just like that, training camp is next up on the docket.

The Washington Commanders just wrapping up mandatory minicamp is further evidence the NFL offseason has flown by. It feels like yesterday we were pumping out free agency and draft content. Now, we’re a little over a month away from training camp, which is the final tune-up before the preseason.

Before you know it the regular season will be here, but let’s not get too ahead of ourselves. After all, training camp is where the roster battles heat up and overall intensity of practice is revved up ten fold.

With minicamp officially in the rearview, the Commanders announced their full training camp schedule on Thursday. Players will return to Ashburn for the first practice on July 27. The camp will run all the way until Aug. 18.

The Commanders won’t be returning to Richmond for camp, but there’s plenty of opportunities for fans to take in the practices first-hand.

Where will the Commanders hold their 2022 training camp?

The Commanders training camp will take place at team headquarters in Ashburn, Virginia. The team had made a trip to Richmond in every season since 2013 (sans the pandemic-shortened 2020 season). It seems like money influenced this decision, as Ron Rivera noted at the owners meetings the $100,000 cost to travel to the popular camp site wasn’t in the cards for the franchise this time around.

The only practice located outside of Ashburn will be at FedEx Field on Aug 6, which the Commanders have turned into a fan event.

That brings us to our next point.

How can fans attend the Commanders’ 2022 training camp?

On Aug. 6, the Commanders will host a practice event at FedEx Field spanning 6:45-9 p.m. with gates opening at 4:30. The event will be free and open to the public. Fans can claim tickets to sit in the lower bowl of the stadium on a first come, first serve basis. You can claim your tickets behind this link.

The event will feature former linebacker London Fletcher and Senior VP of Media and Content Julie Donaldson narrating practice and holding live player interviews. Some lucky fans will get the chance to get autographs from current Commanders players and coaches, so bring pens and objects that can be signed!

As for the practices taking place in Ashburn, Commanders fans can sign up for free for the chance to attend through a lottery system. Tickets are already claimable, so don’t miss out. If you’re interested in attending, head to this link.

That’ll do it, folks! Attending training camp is truly an experience like no other for every football junkie. The fan event will likely draw the most attention, but the Ashburn practices might be just as, if not more, compelling given it’ll likely be strictly football-oriented. Get those tickets before it’s too late!
