The Washington Commanders‘ third round of organized team activities just included on Thursday, so they’ll now break for five days before mandatory minicamp gets underway next week from June 14-16. You know what that means?

The 2022 regular season is officially less than 100 days away. It feels like yesterday we were gearing up for free agency. That’s now a distant memory, along with the draft. Pretty soon, OTAs and minicamp will just be a blip on the radar.

Like all teams, the Commanders are hoping they did enough to improve their roster this offseason. Other clubs were markedly more aggressive than Washington, which relied on the draft, re-signing its own players and making low-profile pickups over making splash moves in free agency and on the trade market.

As everyone looks forward to the 2022 campaign, Bleacher Report published an article highlighting every team’s most exciting offseason addition.

For some clubs, the nominees were obvious; the Dolphins and Tyreek Hill, the Chargers and Khalil Mack, the Broncos and Russell Wilson, the Raiders and Davante Adams, the Eagles and AJ Brown and so on and so forth.

For the Commanders, it’s first-round rookie Jahan Dotson, not a veteran, whom Bleacher Report regards as their most exciting pickup.

Bleacher Report named WR Jahan Dotson as the Commanders’ most exciting offseason addition.

Dotson was one of several first-round picks to crack Bleacher Reports’ list, but that doesn’t make it any less impressive. After all, the rookie edged veteran offensive lineman Andrew Norwell and Trai Turner, both of whom are expected to start next season with the latter expected to replace Brandon Scherff at right guard.

Here’s what writer Alex Kay said of Dotson.

"Few wideouts possess the type of burst and quickness that Dotson displays. He’s one of the smoothest athletes out there and uses that agility and speed to create separation from his defender. He’s made plenty of highlight-reel grabs in traffic as well, including a one-handed catch against Ohio State in 2020.After that game, in which he scored three times, Dotson told reporters: “I approach that as a million dollars. It’s a million dollars in the air. If you want it, you go get it. Every time the ball’s in the air, it’s a chance to make a name for yourself.”"

That’s pretty high praise for the Penn State product. In a vacuum, it makes sense why he’s regarded as Washington’s most attractive pickup, as he’s expected to assume the WR2 role behind Terry McLaurin while Curtis Samuel works out of the slot and moves around the field as an all-purpose weapon.

Speaking of McLaurin, the star wideout’s contract holdout has presented Dotson a golden opportunity to showcase his skills at OTAs. According to Logan Paulsen, Dotson has done more than that, saying the No. 16 overall pick has been nearly unstoppable with his shifty route-running and ability to make plays in traffic.

That should definitely get the fan base buzzing.

Yes, Dotson will have to prove himself on the gridiron on Sundays in the fall. Yes numerous players around the league impress during OTAs, where players don’t wear pads and minimal contact is allowed. However, there’s a distinct difference between a rookie impressing and being virtually unstoppable against seasoned vets.

While Norwell and Turner figure to pay huge dividends to the offensive line, Dotson is without question Washington’s most exciting offseason addition and we cannot wait to see him take the field for his first game action.
