Commanders DL building chemistry by chugging beers at Capitals playoff game

Unfortunately for DC sports fans, there’s not much to love about the city’s professional teams right now. The Capitals blew a golden opportunity to take a 3-1 lead over the Panthers, the Wizards were bounced in the play-in tournament and the Nationals have blown more leads than any team in MLB.

No, the Washington Commanders are not fans’ only hope. The Capitals have championship DNA despite all of their playoff shortcomings and they could take back control of the series with a Game 5 win on Wednesday night.

Given the game’s in Florida, it’s unlikely any Commanders players will be in attendance. However, seemingly the team’s entire defensive line was at Capital One Arena for Monday’s heartbreaking overtime loss to the Panthers.

We can’t confirm this, but it appears as though Jonathan Allen treated the defensive line out to the game. Well, the entire DL and Cole Holcomb. Also involved was Daron Payne, James Smith-Williams, Casey Toohill and what looks like Shaka Toney, who just graduated from Penn State earlier in the week!

Once the guys were put on the jumbotron, they fulfilled their unwritten duty and absolutely housed whatever was left of their beers.

This is the offseason content we want to see! What better way to build chemistry with your teammates than taking in some playoff hockey and chugging Bud Light? Those weren’t the best chugs you’ll ever see from NFL players (looking at you, Toohill), but hey, the mission was accomplished in hying up the crowd.

Credit to Allen for organizing this gathering, too. A Washington captain two years running and the team’s nominee for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award, being generous is second nature to Allen, who made his first Pro Bowl in 2021.

It’s also noteworthy that Payne was asked to tag along. It sure seems like the former Alabama teammates have buried whatever beef they had following their sideline spat during a loss to the Cowboys on Sunday Night Football.

Allen threw a punch at Payne that thankfully didn’t land, but there doesn’t appear to be any bad blood between the longtime friends. The two lineman acknowledged after the game that it was merely a disagreement and they immediately buried the hatchet. Of course, some folks were reluctant to believe they made amends that quickly, but they sure seemed to be in a great mood Monday night.

Who knows? If the Caps dispose of Florida, maybe it’ll be Payne who treats the Commanders to a night out at Capital One Arena next.
