Commanders fans will love Jahan Dotson’s comments on new Micah Parsons rivalry
By Jerry Trotta
The Washington Commanders came into the NFL Draft with weighty pressure to deliver and they emerged from the first round as winners.
By trading back five picks, the front office knocked out two birds with one stone, selecting Penn State wideout Jahan Dotson at No. 16 overall, while acquiring a third- and fourth-round pick after striking a deal with New Orleans.
While the Commanders passed on a handful of higher-ranked prospects, fans couldn’t have asked for a better outcome. Not only did they take a WR whom they had a first-round grade on, but they have extra ammo to build their roster.
And, let’s be honest, this roster could use an influx of talent.
Fans won’t fully buy into the pick until Dotson takes the field, but the former Nittany Lion has handled himself well in front of the media thus far.
During his introductory presser on Friday, Dotson took a playful job at former college teammate Micah Parsons, who set the NFL ablaze as a rookie in 2021. Not only is Dotson ready to lock horns with Parsons, but he’s ready to tilt the Commanders-Cowboys rivalry back in Washington’s favor.
Commanders draftee Jahan Dotson is ready to tackle his new rivalry with Micah Parsons and the Cowboys.
That’s one way to endear yourself to your new fans! And as a former (!) Cowboys fan, talking smack about arguably Washington’s foremost rival is a great way to make Commanders fans give you a clean slate in that regard.
Shortly after Dotson heard his named called by Roger Goodell, his phone buzzed a second time. No, it wasn’t Ron Rivera. It was actually Parsons, who FaceTimed his former teammate to congratulate him on fulfilling his lifelong dream.
"“Micah FaceTimed me last night and said ‘You got to see me twice a year.’ That’s going to be a challenge within itself and I’m looking forward to it.”"
It’s definitely going to be a challenge, but let’s not distract from the fact Dotson took aim at the Cowboys, who made a pretty puzzling pick in Round 1 in Tulsa offensive lineman Tyler Smith, less than 24 hours into his Commanders career!
Once Parsons caught wind of Dotson’s slander, though, he reminded his former teammate who owned the rivalry in 2021. To add insult to injury, the Cowboys defender tweeted the picture of his forced fumble on Taylor Heinicke.

Fair play, Micah. You might’ve gotten the last laugh this time, but Commanders fans are still buying stock in Dotson after he took shots at your Cowboys.
Anyone else can’t wait for these guys to go head-to-head for the first time as NFL players? Start the countdown, because it’s going to be fun.
