2. Don’t Expect QB Before Day 3

Not everyone will agree with this, but Carson Wentz and Taylor Heinicke form one of the stronger quarterback partnerships in the league.

Of course, Wentz and Heinicke are the only QBs currently on the roster and almost every team generally keeps three at a time.

Last year, the Commanders had Ryan Fitzpatrick, Heinicke and Kyle Allen. After Fitz went down in Week 1, they signed Kyle Shurmur to the practice squad and later added Garrett Gilbert to start a game after Heinicke and Allen both hit the COVID list.

During Monday’s presser, Rivera said Washington would “like to make sure we have at least three (quarterbacks) going into camp.” Whether that comes in the form a late-round draft pick or free agent signing remains to be seen, but Rivera did note he’d like to draft a quarterback to be the team’s third option.

With Rivera admitting the Wentz trade changed the complexion of Washington’s draft plans, it doesn’t sound like the team has any interest drafting one until Day 3. At that point, they’d likely be looking at Western Kentucky’s Bailey Zappe, Western Michigan’s Kaleb Eleby and Brown’s EJ Perry.
