3 rival picks that would be bad news for Commanders in 2022 NFL Draft

2. Eagles Bolster DL and Secondary

Previously holders of three first-round picks this year, the Eagles now only own two following their blockbuster trade with the Saints. Despite that, Philly is still in a great position to expedite their rebuild, which is nerving considering they’re fresh off making the playoffs in Nick Sirianni’s first year as head coach.

With needs at cornerback, defensive line, wide receiver and linebacker, the Eagles possess the No. 15 and 18 overall picks.

While Commanders fans are hopeful they use one of those selections on a linebacker, perhaps Utah’s Devin Lloyd, they’ll be kicking themselves if Philly gets their hands on Georgia nose tackle Jordan Davis and Washington corner Trent McDuffie.

Davis, for starters, is widely viewed as the top DT in this year’s class. With the ability to dominate single blockers and occupy double teams to create real estate for teammates, Davis has future multi-time Pro Bowler written all over him.

The former Bulldog has the potential to be a star as a rookie — much like Christian Barmore was with the Patriots in 2021 — but having him learn under Fletcher Cox’ wing for a season or two would make the pick that much more daunting.

With Darius Slay still one of the best pound-for-pound cornerbacks in the game, McDuffie would give the Eagles a daunting CB partnership. With a sky-high football IQ, the cleanest (and most willing) tackler of any corner in the 2022 class and a true route-hugger in coverage, any team would be lucky to draft McDuffie.

The Eagles have a huge need at receiver, but getting two potential defensive cornerstones in Round 1 should strike more fear in Commanders fans. After all, why invest in a WR when you have major questions at quarterback?
