With the departure of All-Pro guard Brandon Scherff to the Jaguars earlier in offseason, the Washington Commanders are in need of a developmental prospect.  Tulsa’s Chris Paul is a solid choice.  Was Scherff a major loss?  Sure, but it is not as catastrophic as the fans may believe.  Scherff has missed multiple games in recent seasons and his loss will be adequately mitigated with new free agent guard Andrew Norwell, veteran Wes Schweitzer, and Paul – a four year starter for the Golden Hurricanes.

Born in Houston to first generation Nigerian parents, Chris Paul was barely recruited out of high school.  He was a popular student (senior class president) and young Mr. Paul seemed as if he was destined for academic success only (he will graduate soon with an MBA degree), but Tulsa offered him a scholarship as mostly a depth piece on the offensive line.  With an athletic scholarship attained, Chris Paul took advantage of the opportunity and became one of the best offensive linemen in the program’s history.

Fast forward to the present and the one-time academic stud is a legitimate NFL prospect in the 2022 draft.  From the very first day on the Tulsa practice field, Paul set out to achieve new standards in football and he exceeded all expectations.  He will be a solid depth addition to the offensive line as a rookie and could become a starter by his second season.  Paul has the heart and determination to succeed at the next level.
