1. Trent McDuffie

The Commanders don’t technically need to use their first-round pick on a cornerback, but the position isn’t as deep as it’s being led on and William Jackson III’s contract is easily movable next year if he struggles with consistency and injuries again.

In terms of depth, Kendall Fuller, Jackson, Danny Johnson and Benjamin St-Juste are Washington’s only options. If one or two of them were to get hurt (St-Juste was in concussion protocol three times as a rookie) the Commanders would be forced to call on Troy Apke and Corn Elder and nobody wants that.

Enter Trent McDuffie, the consensus third-ranked cornerback in the upcoming draft behind Sauce Gardner and Derek Stingley. If Ron Rivera and Co. trade back just a few picks, they would be in a prime position to take the Washington corner.

There isn’t much to not love about McDuffie’s game. He’s not the physical specimen that has scouts drooling over Gardner and Stingley, but he can play in multiple schemes and has the versatility to cover the boundary or the slot.

Even better? McDuffie plays with elite game speed and is without question the best tackling corner in this year’s class. The former Husky has a tremendously high football IQ — just ask MMBQ’s Albert Breer — and only allowed 16 catches for 111 yards with zero scores and five pass breakups in college.

Need we say anything else?
