3 draft targets for Commanders if they trade back in first round
By Jerry Trotta
2. Treylon Burks
Treylon Burks is a possibility for the Commanders at pick No. 11, but it seems like Garrett Wilson, Drake London and Chris Olave all have a better chance of being the pick if the front office stays put and goes wide receiver in Round 1.
We deferred to Kiper and Brugler for Hill’s expected draft range, so we’ll do the same regarding Burks. According to the draft’s foremost experts, the Arkansas receiver is likely to go come off the board in the low-20 range, if not higher. Kiper mocked Burks to Arizona at No. 23, while Brugler mocked him to Buffalo at No. 25.
If the Commanders trade back six or seven picks and Wilson, London and Olave have all been taken, Burks would be quite the consolation prize.
The former Razorback caught some flack for his slower-than-expected 40-time and overall underwhelming combine performance, but that shouldn’t dissuade any team from drafting him, including the Commanders.
At the end of the day, we’re talking about a prospect who has the build of an X receiver and played 77% of his snaps in the slot in 2021. He even ran 19 routes of the backfield, so he can be utilized on jet sweeps and other gadget plays, and led all draft-eligible WRs in YAC per reception (9.3) and yards per catch (16.4).
For good measure, Burks’ top game speed clocked out at over 22 MPH, so that should eliminate concerns about his 40 time. Even if Washington’s still in the top 15 after trading back, Burks would be a fantastic get by the front office.
