Round Four

Sterling Weatherford, Strong Safety/Buffalo Nickel, Miami (OH) – 6-3, 225

*** The Numbers

  • Hand: 8.5
  • Arm: 32
  • Wing: 76
  • Vertical: 36
  • Bench Press: 21
  • Broad Jump: 9’9”
  • 3 Cone: 6.93
  • Short Shuttle: 4.33
  • 40: 4.59

When safety Landon Collins refused to restructure his contract, Washington released the former Alabama star.  Weatherford is a decent replacement and could be a regular contributor later in his first season.  He should also be a special teams standout.

Round Six

Cordell Volson, Offensive Guard/Tackle, North Dakota State

*** The Numbers

  • Hand: 10.5
  • Arm: 34
  • Wing: 82
  • Vertical: 32
  • Bench Press: 25
  • Broad Jump: 8’8”
  • 3 Cone: 7.65
  • Short Shuttle: 4.64
  • 40: 5.27

Cordell Volson is one of the better offensive linemen in the FCS and he played mostly at right tackle, but is generally considered to be a guard at the next level.  He red-shirted as a freshman after being recruited by very few schools, but started to flourish in his final two seasons for the Bison.

Round Seven

Otito Ogbonnia, Defensive Tackle, UCLA – 6-4, 325

*** The Numbers

  • Hand: 10
  • Arm: 34.5
  • Wing: 83.5
  • Vertical: Hamstring Injury
  • Bench Press: 29
  • Broad Jump: Hamstring Injury
  • 3 Cone: Hamstring Injury
  • Short Shuttle: Hamstring Injury
  • 40: 5.3

Noah Eliss, Defensive Tackle, Idaho – 6-4, 345

*** The Numbers

  • Hand: 10.5
  • Arm: 32.25
  • Wing: 78.5
  • Vertical: Torn Hamstring (Following first 40 sprint)
  • Bench Press: Torn Hamstring
  • Broad Jump: Torn Hamstring
  • 3 Cone: Torn Hamstring
  • Short Shuttle: Torn Hamstring
  • 40: 5.66

Taking two defensive tackles with both of the seventh round selections is not as far-fetched as you may think.  After losing Tim Settle to the Bills and Matt Ioannidis signing with the Panthers, the Commanders decide to add defensive tackle depth with a pair of solid prospects.

Otito Ogbonnia was a four year starter for UCLA and was on the track team for two years as a shot putter.  Yes, he is very strong and was one of the best in the PAC-12 each season.

Noah Eliss was recruited by Alabama, Mississippi State, Auburn, Southern Cal, Notre Dame, and many other top programs.  His academics were lacking and he decided to enroll at Idaho.  Eliss would be a solid addition.  Noah is the son of ten year NFL veteran defensive tackle, Luther Eliss – a first round pick out of Utah.
