1. Garrett Wilson/Chris Olave

You had to know Ohio State’s star WR tandem would get the top spot. When it comes to which prospect you’d rather see the Commanders draft, it’s honestly a matter of preference. In Wilson (my personal preference) Washington would get a player who does a little bit of everything at an elite level for a wide receiver.

Between tracking the ball through the air, coming down with contested catches, getting separation on deep routes (though Olave might have the edge on him there) and creating plays in the open field after the catch, Wilson has the potential to be a No. 1 receiver at the pro level despite being undersized.

Olave, on the other hand, continues to gain buzz as the Commanders’ most likely selection at No. 11 overall. Not only did Ron Rivera have a long chat with Olave at the Buckeyes’ pro day, but Washington will reportedly use one of its 30 pre-draft visits on Ohio State’s all-time leader in touchdown receptions.

Simply put, Olave is one of the most refined route runners in this year’s class and has the acceleration to be an elite deep threat at the next level. He doesn’t offer much after the catch like Wilson, but he wouldn’t have to do much in that regard while sharing the field with Terry McLaurin and Curtis Samuel.

The one knock on Olave is that he enters the draft as a senior and underclassmen have generally fared better in the NFL. But that shouldn’t concern Washington, who drafted McLaurin after a four-year career in Columbus.

The bottom line is Wilson or Olave would be outstanding picks for the Commanders and we know Young would love reuniting with either one of them.
