It’s been an excruciating weekend for the NFL, as former Washington Commanders quarterback Dwayne Haskins was killed in South Florida on Saturday after he was struck by a vehicle.

Set to turn 25 in May, Haskins had his entire life ahead of him and it’s absolutely agonizing to think it was cut short. The news was met with collective sadness around the NFL. From Haskins’ current and former teammates and coaches, media members and fans, the entire country grieved over Haskins’ tragic death.

While the wound is still fresh and may never heal, we thought we’d try to celebrate Haskins’ football career in the wake of his passing.

As someone who spoke his Ohio State future into existence when he was an innocent 11-year-old, it would only be fitting if we reflected on some of the most memorable moments of both Haskins’ college and NFL career.

5. Record-Setting Performance vs Maryland

There’s an argument to be made that this Haskins performance was the finest of his Buckeyes career. After all, it had significant meaning, as Haskins, a native of Potomac, Maryland, had originally committed to play for the Terrapins. After much deliberation, though, Haskins de-committed and joined his dream school.

That’s part of what makes this game so impressive for Haskins. Not only was he sublime in a nail-biter against a Big Ten rival, but the matchup was personal given his ties to the state of Maryland and the Terps’ football program.

Favored by 14.5 points, the then-No. 9 ranked Buckeyes found themselves trailing by two touchdowns in the third quarter and 45-38 with under two minutes left in regulation. Thanks to Haskins, Ohio State scored touchdowns on its final four possessions, including overtime, to rally and pull out a 52-51 victory.

For the game, Haskins finished 28-of-38 for 405 yards and three touchdowns, adding 59 yards and a career-high three TDs on the ground. To put the comeback into perspective, Haskins helped the Buckeyes convert all five of their third-down attempts in the fourth quarter. And the only one they missed, which came in overtime, was amended when OSU converted on fourth down.

Among Haskins’ highlights were him fielding a botched snap and turning into a touchdown scamper to tie the score at 38-38 and a gorgeous back-shoulder fade to the tightly-covered Binjimen Victor to force overtime.

If not for Haskins’ heroics, the Buckeyes’ dreams of winning the Big Ten title and playing a meaningful bowl game would’ve came crashing down.

More on that in a minute.
