The Washington Commanders‘ performance in both free agency and the draft will determine the success of the offseason. You know what would end that debate on the spot, though? A change in ownership.

Before you roll your eyes, consider this: The NFL has very clearly been losing patience with Dan Snyder in recent months.

Between the league stepping in after Snyder hired his own investigative team to look into the allegations levied against him by former Washington employee Tiffani Johnston and the NFL accusing him of withholding documents during the Beth Wilkinson investigation, Washington’s owner has been pushing his luck.

There are countless examples — most of which are highly disturbing — you could point to and question how Snyder still owns the franchise. The NFL and its owners have bent over backwards to keep him in office, but could his latest reported misstep finally be the straw that broke the camel’s back?

When you consider Snyder was essentially picking the league’s pockets, it’s not a farfetched thought.

According to AJ Perez of Front Office Sports, Congress has received information that alleges the Commanders used a scheme to withhold ticket revenue that is required to be shared with other teams. Per NFL rules, teams must share 40 percent of home ticket revenue to the league, which disseminates the funds to visiting teams.

Is Commanders owner Dan Snyder on thin ice with the NFL?

This revelation comes just days after Perez and Front Office Sports reported Congress is investigating the Commanders for potential financial improprieties. The investigation is specifically focused on finding whether the team used separate books to pain contrasting pictures of the team’s financial well-being.

It’s appalling to think about, but this news is more likely to force Snyder to sell the team than everything else he’s been accused of. That laundry includes the alleged mistreatment of female employees.

Since this infraction (if confirmed) intentionally screw owners out of making more money, it unfortunately wouldn’t be the least bit shocking if the owners retaliated by turning on Snyder and pushing him out of office.

We’ll see what comes of it all. Per the report, the Commanders and the league were made aware of the allegations within the last month and it’s unclear how long the alleged scheme was at large or who authorized it.

Fair to say we can all connect the dots on that one, though.
